Radio-Canada Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador is looking for a curious and resourceful Videojournalist to join our team in St. John’s. In this role, you will research, pitch, present and produce engaging stories across our digital and television platforms. You will also be a creative thinker who brings original ideas to our news programs and content. You should be able to travel around the province and be comfortable appearing on air. You will shoot and produce your own reports in a range of formats — from traditional TV news packages to vertical video for social platforms — while collaborating closely with colleagues on our regional French-language team. You will edit your own video, contribute across digital, radio and television platforms as needed, and work independently on a flexible schedule.

Being a Videojournalist in Newfoundland and Labrador means connecting directly with French-speaking communities across the province and Atlantic Canada while sharing local stories with audiences nationwide.

Come be the eyes and ears of the Radio-Canada team in Newfoundland and Labrador!

Role:

Working independently or within a programming team, you will research, package and present news content across digital and television platforms. Work is governed by CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and programming policies. Advice and guidance may be regularly available, but there is latitude for initiative and independent judgment. There may be opportunity to co-ordinate the work of others. Close co-operation with the program unit is essential.

Key Tasks:

  • Build and maintain a broad network of contacts to stay ahead of key regional issues and events, in alignment with editorial goals.
  • Gather news and information from a wide variety of sources.
  • Conduct analysis of facts and information gathered and draw conclusions or raise issues requiring further investigation.
  • Prepare and conduct interviews.
  • Decide which elements should be included in an item, their order, length and sequence, as well as the method of transition from one element to another.
  • Create shot and sequence lists specifying the subject matter and tone of each piece.
  • Prepare, adjust, set up and operate an ENG camera and related equipment, ensuring optimal video, sound and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
  • Light the subject or scene and compose program visual material using a handheld camera. Ensure that the material produced meets the technical and esthetic requirements for editing.
  • Deliver all recorded materials, including shot lists and continuity.
  • Edit recorded materials using appropriate or available equipment.
  • Prepare and write scripts, continuity and headlines.
  • Report the story, either on camera or in voice-over form.
    • Drive field vehicles as needed to carry out these duties.
    • As assigned or required, perform any of the following tasks:
    • Attend daily story meetings and contribute story ideas.
    • Perform final editing.
    • Operate studio equipment.
    • Maintain a library of stock footage and archival material.
    • Perform routine minor maintenance on ENG/EFP camera, editing and associated equipment.
    • In the field, carry out emergency repairs to cameras and related equipment.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.
