Terms of Use

Effective date: September 27, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Bilingo ("Bilingo", "we", "us", or "our"). They govern your use of the Bilingo website at bilingo.ca and any related features and services (together, the "Site").

By creating an account, or by accessing or using the Site as a job seeker, an employer, or a visitor, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Definitions

  • Job seeker: a person who uses the Site to find work, with or without an account.
  • Employer: a business, organization, or person, and anyone acting on its behalf, that uses an employer account to post jobs or review applicants.
  • Job listing: a job opening shown on the Site, whether posted directly by an employer or synced from an employer's career site or applicant tracking system (ATS).
  • Language requirement: the languages, such as French and English, that a job listing says the role requires.
  • Profile: a job seeker's candidate profile, including any CV or resume uploaded or linked to it.
  • Content: any text, images, files, links, or other material submitted to the Site, including profiles, job listings, company pages, and messages.
  • Paid plan: an optional paid subscription, such as Boost or Spotlight, that adds visibility to an employer's job listing.
  • Digital product: a downloadable product we sell, such as our bilingual resume template.

2. What Bilingo is, and what it is not

Bilingo is a job board for bilingual jobs in Canada. We bring together jobs that call for two or more languages, most often French and English, so bilingual job seekers can find, save, and apply for them, and so employers can reach candidates who speak the languages they need.

Bilingo is not an employer, a recruitment agency, or a staffing company. We are not a party to any hiring decision or employment relationship between job seekers and employers. We do not test or certify anyone's language skills, and we do not guarantee that you will find a job, fill a position, receive applications, or get any particular result from using the Site.

3. Eligibility and accounts

3.1 Who can use Bilingo

You must be at least 14 years old to create an account to find jobs. If you are 14 or 15, you need the permission of a parent or guardian to create an account and to apply for jobs. The minimum age to work, and the kind of work you can do, depend on your province or territory and on the job: many jobs require you to be 16, and some, such as most jobs in federally regulated industries and certain hazardous work, require you to be 18. It is your responsibility, with your parent or guardian, to apply only for jobs you are legally allowed to do.

You must be at least 18, or the age of majority in your province or territory, to buy a paid plan or a digital product, or to create an employer account. If you create an employer account, you confirm that you are authorized to act for the employer you represent and to accept these Terms on its behalf.

3.2 Two separate account types

Each account is either a job seeker account or an employer account. You choose the type when you sign up, and it cannot be changed later. If you both look for work and hire, you need a separate account for each, with a different email address. When you log in, you must choose the account type that matches your account.

3.3 Registration

You can register with an email address and password, or with a social sign-in (such as Google or LinkedIn) where offered. You must verify your email address. You agree to give accurate, current, and complete information, to keep it up to date, and not to create an account for anyone else without their permission or to hold more than one account of the same type.

3.4 Keeping your account secure

Your account is personal and may not be sold, transferred, or shared. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity on your account. If you think someone has accessed your account without permission, contact us right away at [email protected].

4. For job seekers

4.1 Free to use

Searching, saving jobs, job alerts, building a profile, and applying through Bilingo are free for job seekers. Bilingo never charges job seekers to apply for a job, and employers may not ask you to pay to apply or to be hired. We also sell optional digital products, such as our bilingual resume template (see section 6.6); you never need to buy one to use Bilingo or to apply for jobs.

4.2 Your profile and resume

Before you can use your dashboard or apply for jobs on Bilingo, you must complete the required parts of your profile, including a CV (uploaded as a PDF or Word file) or a link to one (such as your LinkedIn profile). Your profile can also include your languages, bio, and work preferences. You are responsible for making sure your profile and CV are accurate, including how you describe your language skills, and that they are yours to share.

You control who can see your profile through its visibility setting (Public, Employers only, or Private). Only a Public profile appears at your public talent link. When you apply for a job on Bilingo, the employer that posted it receives your application, including a snapshot of your profile and your CV. Employer accounts may also view your uploaded CV if your profile is set to Public or Employers only. A CV link is only as private as the file it points to. Our Privacy Policy explains this in detail.

4.3 Applying for jobs

Some listings let you apply on Bilingo. Others send you to the employer's own website, email, or application form, where the employer's terms and privacy practices apply. Employers may assess your language skills as part of their hiring process. Once your application reaches an employer, the hiring process, including any language tests, interviews, offers, and decisions, is between you and that employer.

4.4 Job alerts and newsletter

If you save a search and turn on alerts, or subscribe to our newsletter, you agree to receive emails with matching jobs or bilingual job news at the frequency you choose. You can change or turn off alerts at any time, and every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link.

5. For employers

5.1 Job listings

Bilingo is only for bilingual jobs. You are responsible for every job listing you post or sync to Bilingo. Each listing must:

  • be for a bilingual position: a job whose duties genuinely require working in at least two languages (such as French and English), with those languages stated in the listing's language requirement;
  • be for a real, currently open position that you are authorized to fill;
  • be accurate and not misleading about the role, pay, location, working conditions, and language requirements;
  • comply with all applicable laws, including the Canadian Human Rights Act, provincial and territorial human rights codes, employment standards, and pay transparency requirements that apply to you;
  • not discriminate on any ground protected by law, and include only requirements that are genuinely needed for the job;
  • include only language requirements that the duties of the job genuinely require, and, for jobs in Quebec, comply with the Charter of the French language, including its rules on when an employer may require knowledge of a language other than French;
  • comply with the minimum working age and youth employment rules that apply to the job, including any required permits, parental consent, and limits on hours and type of work, and state in the listing if the job has a minimum age (for example, 18 for most federally regulated jobs and certain hazardous work); and
  • not ask candidates to pay any fee, buy any product, or share banking or payment information to apply or be hired.

We may review, edit for formatting, decline, or remove any listing that we believe breaks these Terms or the law, that does not require at least two languages, or that could put job seekers at risk.

5.2 Company pages

You may create a company page with your company's name, logo, description, and website. You confirm that you have the right to use these, and that your company page is accurate and not misleading.

5.3 Candidate information

When job seekers apply to your listings, you receive personal information about them, such as their name, email address, profile, and CV. You agree to use this information only to assess candidates for the position they applied to and to communicate with them about it, and to handle it in line with applicable privacy laws, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and any provincial equivalent, such as Quebec's private-sector privacy law. You may not sell it, share it with third parties for unrelated purposes, or add candidates to marketing lists without their consent.

5.4 ATS integrations and synced listings

If you connect your applicant tracking system or career site to Bilingo, you authorize us to regularly retrieve the publicly available job openings from it, and to publish, update, and remove the matching listings on Bilingo automatically. You remain responsible for the accuracy and legality of those listings.

By default, synced listings send candidates to apply on your own site, under your own terms. You can choose to edit a synced listing from your Listings page and switch it to receive applications on Bilingo instead; that choice stays in place when the listing syncs again. Each sync refreshes the listing's title, description, location, and salary from your ATS, so make lasting changes to those in your ATS. If a job closes in your ATS, we take the listing down on Bilingo.

5.5 How we promote job listings

To help your listings reach bilingual candidates, we may display and share them on the Site, in job alert emails and our newsletter, on social media, in search engines and job indexing services (such as Google), and with partner job sites, depending on the plan you choose.

6. Paid plans, digital products, and billing

6.1 Plans

Employers can post job listings on the free Basic plan. Optional paid plans, such as Boost and Spotlight, add visibility to a listing. The features and price of each plan are shown before you buy.

6.2 Prices and payment

Prices are in Canadian dollars unless stated otherwise, and applicable sales taxes (such as GST, HST, PST, or QST) are added where required. Payments are processed by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store your full card details.

6.3 Renewal

Paid plans are billed monthly or yearly, as you choose; paying yearly costs about two months less than paying monthly. Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price until you cancel. We will send you a reminder before a renewal where required by law.

6.4 Cancellation

You can cancel a paid plan at any time from your Listings page. Cancellation stops future renewals; the listing keeps its paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for. There is no cancellation fee.

6.5 Refunds

Except as required by law, payments for job listings, paid plans, and digital products are final and are not refunded, including when a plan is cancelled part-way through a billing period. Digital products are never refunded once they have been delivered to you, as explained in section 6.6. We will refund in full any duplicate charge or billing error caused by us. To report a billing problem, contact [email protected] with the date and amount of the charge. Nothing in this section limits any right you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived by contract.

6.6 Digital products

We sell digital products, such as our bilingual resume template, as one-time purchases. The price and what is included are shown on the product page before you buy, and payment is made on a secure checkout page provided by Stripe. After payment, you receive a link to download the product.

When you buy a digital product, you ask us to make it available immediately, and you agree that, because it is digital content delivered right away, all sales of digital products are final and are not refundable once the download is made available to you, except as required by law. If you were charged twice, were charged in error, or did not receive your download, contact [email protected] and we will fix it or refund you.

You may use a digital product you buy for your own personal job search, including to create and send your own resumes. You may not resell, share, publish, or redistribute the product itself or any copy of it. All rights in our digital products stay with Bilingo.

7. Job listings from other sources

Many listings on Bilingo come from employers' own career sites and applicant tracking systems. We work to keep listings current and relevant to bilingual job seekers, but we do not guarantee that any listing is accurate, complete, still open, or legitimate, or that it accurately states the languages the job requires. Salary information may be an estimate or supplied by the employer. When you follow a link to another website, you leave Bilingo, and that website's terms and privacy practices apply. We are not responsible for third-party websites.

8. Your content

8.1 You own your content

You keep ownership of the content you submit, such as your profile, job listings, and company page.

8.2 Permission you give us

You give Bilingo a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display, format, translate, and distribute your content, as needed to operate, improve, and promote the Site and the services described in these Terms (for example, showing your job listing to candidates, including in French or English, or your application to an employer). This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already shared under these Terms (such as applications already sent to employers), and for backup copies kept for a limited time.

8.3 Your responsibility

You confirm that you have the rights needed to submit your content, that it is truthful, and that it does not infringe anyone's rights or break the law.

9. Acceptable use

You agree to use Bilingo only for lawful job searching, hiring, and related purposes. You must not:

  • post fake, misleading, or unlawful job listings, including pyramid or multi-level marketing schemes presented as jobs;
  • ask job seekers for money, banking details, or other sensitive information that is not needed for a genuine hiring process, or require them to buy any product, including our digital products;
  • misrepresent your own or anyone else's language skills or qualifications;
  • create fake profiles or accounts, or impersonate any person or organization;
  • harass, threaten, discriminate against, or abuse anyone, including because of the language they speak or their accent;
  • send spam or unsolicited commercial messages;
  • scrape, crawl, copy, or harvest data from the Site, or use bots or automated tools to access it, without our written permission;
  • try to access other users' accounts or data, or interfere with the security or operation of the Site; or
  • use the Site in any way that breaks the law or these Terms.

10. Reporting and moderation

If you see a suspicious job listing, a profile, or any content that you believe breaks these Terms or the law, report it to [email protected] with a link and a short description. We review reports and may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close accounts. Where we can, we will tell you about a decision that affects your account and why, and you may ask us to review it by contacting us.

11. AI features

Bilingo offers an AI chat assistant that answers questions in French or English using our Help Center and live job listings. The assistant is powered by a third-party AI provider. Its answers are generated automatically and may be incomplete or wrong, so please check important details, such as a job's language requirements, on the job listing or the Help Center. Do not share personal, financial, or sensitive information in the chat. We keep a record of questions and answers to run the service, prevent abuse, and improve the Help Center, as described in our Privacy Policy. The assistant does not make any decision about your account, applications, or hiring, and does not assess anyone's language skills.

12. Intellectual property

The Site, including its design, text, graphics, software, digital products, and the Bilingo name and logo, belongs to Bilingo or its licensors and is protected by law. Apart from normal personal use of the Site, you may not copy, modify, distribute, or reuse any part of it without our written permission. Company names, logos, and trademarks shown on job listings and company pages belong to their owners.

If you believe content on Bilingo infringes your copyright or other rights, email [email protected] with a description of the content, where it appears, the rights you hold, and your contact details. We will review the notice and take appropriate action.

13. Privacy, cookies, and emails

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share personal information. We use cookies that are needed for the Site to work, and, only with your consent, analytics cookies. You can change your choice at any time through Cookie preferences in the footer.

We send emails needed to run your account, such as verification, security, billing, and application updates. We send newsletters and other promotional emails only with your consent, as required by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and every such email includes a way to unsubscribe.

14. Third-party services

The Site relies on third-party services, such as payment processing and checkout (Stripe), social sign-in (such as Google and LinkedIn), email delivery providers, an AI provider for the chat assistant, and employers' career sites. Your use of those services may also be subject to their terms. We are not responsible for services we do not control.

15. Availability and changes to the Site

We work to keep Bilingo available and working well, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free. We may change, add, suspend, or remove features at any time. Bilingo is not a storage service, so please keep your own copies of anything important, such as your resume.

16. Disclaimer

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Site and all content on it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that job listings are accurate or lawful, that employers or candidates are who they say they are or have the language skills they describe, or that using the Site will lead to employment or a hire. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.

17. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bilingo will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or opportunity, arising from or related to your use of the Site, the conduct of any employer or job seeker, or any job listing or third-party website. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Site is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, and (b) one hundred Canadian dollars (CA$100).

These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them, including liability for fraud, gross negligence, or intentional misconduct. If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your province or territory that cannot be waived, including, for residents of Quebec, the Consumer Protection Act and the Civil Code of Québec.

18. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Bilingo from any claims, losses, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your job listings, your use of candidate information, or your breach of these Terms or the law. This section does not apply to consumers where such clauses are not permitted.

19. Ending your use of Bilingo

You can stop using Bilingo at any time and ask us to close your account by contacting [email protected]. Closing an employer account cancels any paid plans at the end of their current period.

We may suspend or close your account, or remove your content, if you break these Terms or the law, if your use puts other users or the Site at risk, or if your account has been inactive for a long time. Where appropriate, we will give you notice and a chance to fix the problem first. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should continue after your account is closed (such as sections 8, 12, 16, 17, 18, and 21) will continue to apply.

20. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will let you know at least 30 days before they take effect, by email to the address on your account and by a notice on the Site. If you do not agree with the changes, you can close your account before they take effect. If you keep using Bilingo after the changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms. The effective date at the top of this page shows when these Terms last changed.

21. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Subject to the next sentence, you and Bilingo agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario. If you are a consumer, you may also bring a claim in the courts of your own province or territory where the law gives you that right, and the mandatory consumer protection laws of your province or territory continue to apply to you.

Before starting any formal dispute, please contact us at [email protected] so we can try to resolve the issue informally. We aim to respond to complaints within 30 days.

22. General

  • These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any terms shown when you buy a paid plan or digital product, are the entire agreement between you and Bilingo about the Site.
  • If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be changed only as much as needed to make it enforceable, and the rest will stay in effect.
  • If we do not enforce a right under these Terms, we have not given up that right.
  • You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer ours as part of a merger, sale, or reorganization of our business.
  • We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.

23. Zero tolerance for abuse

Bilingo has zero tolerance for scams, fake job offers, harassment, hate, threats, sexual exploitation, impersonation, spam, and other abusive content or conduct. We may remove such content and suspend or close the accounts involved without notice, and we may report illegal activity to the authorities. Please report anything suspicious to [email protected].

24. Contact us

If you have questions about these Terms, contact us at [email protected]. For help with your account or the Site, contact [email protected].
