Job Description:

TD Asset Management (TDAM), a member of TD Bank Group, is a Canadian investment management firm with a growing global presence. As of June 30, 2026, TDAM and its affiliates manage over $570 billion in assets on behalf of pension, insurance, endowment/foundation, and corporate clients, as well as high-net worth clients, retail mutual funds and ETFs. TDAM has built one of Canada’s largest and most respected investment management and research teams with more than 330 Portfolio Managers, Associate Portfolio Managers, Traders and Analysts.

We are recruiting for an Associate Portfolio Manager to join the Global Multi-Asset team. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in derivatives or macro cross-asset investing and a commitment to investment excellence across a broad range of investment solutions. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise across asset allocation, macro investing, derivatives, public and private markets, portfolio construction and risk management within one of Canada's largest investment platforms.

TDAM's Global Multi-Asset team manages over $110 billion in assets across a range of diversified portfolios. The investment team constructs and manages portfolio solutions that draw on opportunities across public and private markets, including global equities, fixed income, commodities, private markets, and liquid alternatives.  The Global Multi-Asset team employs a multi-disciplined investment process that integrates macroeconomic, cross-asset and fundamental investment research, portfolio construction, risk analysis and sophisticated derivatives implementation to deliver investment excellence through strategic portfolio design and tactical management.  The investment team uses a collaborative approach to decision making, placing a high value on cultural alignment and intellectual curiosity for our growing business.

The Associate Portfolio Manager will be directly involved in derivative idea generation, multi-asset strategy, portfolio construction, daily portfolio management, analytics, trade modelling and risk management.  The selected individual will closely work with senior portfolio managers and have a direct impact on investment performance, portfolio outcomes, and continued growth of TDAM's diversified investment solutions. The individual should demonstrate high personal accountability, strong analytical capabilities, sound investment judgement and risk awareness, drive for investment excellence and enjoy working in a collaborative team environment. The successful candidate will progressively assume greater investment decision-making and portfolio management responsibility, contribute to portfolio risk-taking and investment performance, lead strategic initiatives, and interact with clients and senior business leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop derivative ideas relevant to a broad range of investment objectives and risk constraints and actively manage the full life cycle of investment positions in a timely manner.
  • Daily active management of global multi-asset portfolios, ensuring optimal market exposures, cash levels, risk-adjusted returns, alignment with client objectives, and compliance with regulations.
  • Contribute to strategic and tactical positioning for investment mandates, leveraging macroeconomic insights, thematic research, cycle/regime analysis, investment factor analysis, asset class trading, investment strategy structuring and risk modelling.
  • Develop and articulate trade rationales with a focus on portfolio impact, investment thesis, and risk considerations.
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of investment and risk monitoring frameworks, using quantitative and qualitative analysis to enhance portfolio outcomes.
  • Conduct investment strategy and portfolio construction analysis, ongoing engagement and evaluation of internal managers and external partners.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, including Portfolio Managers, Analysts, Traders, Client Portfolio Managers, Investment Operations, and Risk Management to ensure excellent investment execution and client engagement.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant investment experience in derivatives, global multi-asset portfolio management, investment research, trading, or related investment disciplines.
  • Experience in discretionary investment decision making and risk taking in global multi-asset strategies including derivatives.
  • Progress toward a CFA or CIM designation, as well as derivatives licensing, are assets.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop independent investment views, evaluate complex investment strategies, generate investment ideas, and manage risks in an evidence-based manner.
  • Deep knowledge and strong application of macroeconomic analysis, portfolio construction, investment markets, strategies, trading and risk analytics.
  • Experience with quantitative research and investment technology tools such as Python, SQL, Bloomberg, FactSet, and portfolio analytics systems is an asset.
  • Bilingual, French-English would be an asset.      
  • Excellent attention to detail, high level of intellectual curiosity, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate complex subject matter to audience with varying levels of knowledge.
  • Self-starter who will independently learn and explore topics in a rapidly evolving investment landscape.
