Salary range (but not limited to):

87,200 - 106,600

Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance):

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer & Director of Governance, the Senior Analyst Investment Compliance supports the monitoring and oversight of investment activities within Intact Investment Management Inc. This role helps ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, client investment guidelines, and internal policies.

The Analyst works closely with Portfolio Management, Trading, Risk Management, Investment Operations, Data Management, Legal, and Information Technology. The role provides an opportunity to develop expertise in investment compliance, contribute to effective controls and surveillance processes, and support the resolution of compliance exceptions and incidents.

What you will do here

Compliance monitoring and surveillance

• Perform daily pre-trade and post-trade monitoring of portfolios against client investment guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.

• Review, investigate, document, and escalate potential breaches and exceptions in accordance with established procedures.

• Support the maintenance and optimization of compliance rules in investment compliance systems, such as Charles River, and other monitoring tools.

• Assist with look-through, eligibility, exposure, and concentration analyses across various asset classes, including derivatives, structured products, fixed income, equities, and alternative investments.

• Maintain accurate exception records and follow up with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely resolution.

• Contribute to root-cause analyses and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

Regulatory and client guideline management

• Assist in interpreting and translating client investment policies, mandates, and applicable regulatory requirements into operational and testable compliance rules.

• Support the implementation of updates resulting from regulatory changes, new client mandates, or changes to internal policies.

• Conduct research on applicable investment management regulations, including requirements under National Instrument 81-102 and other relevant securities legislation.

• Collaborate with Legal, Risk Management, Trading, Data Management, Investment Operations, and Investment Management to ensure guidelines are properly reflected in systems and procedures.

• Maintain current documentation related to client guidelines, regulatory requirements, and compliance controls.

Governance, reporting, and audit

• Prepare recurring compliance reports, dashboards, metrics, and breach summaries for review by the Chief Compliance Officer and management committees.

• Support the preparation of compliance certifications, attestations, regulatory reports, and client reporting.

• Assist with internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and information requests.

• Maintain clear and complete supporting documentation, evidence, narratives, and audit trails for compliance activities.

• Contribute to the preparation of risk assessments and trend analyses.

Data, technology, and process improvement

• Work with technology and data teams to identify and resolve data quality issues that may affect compliance monitoring.

• Participate in user acceptance testing for system upgrades, new rules, and enhancements to compliance controls.

• Assist in reviewing rule logic, testing results, and system outputs to ensure that controls operate as intended.

• Develop or enhance spreadsheets, analytics, and dashboards to improve the efficiency and timeliness of surveillance activities.

• Document procedures, workflows, and control activities.

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and projects designed to strengthen the investment compliance framework.

• Support the monitoring of service levels and issue resolution with key business partners and service providers, including Charles River.

Stakeholder partnership and issue resolution

• Provide day-to-day guidance to Portfolio Managers, Traders, and other stakeholders on investment guideline interpretation and compliance requirements.

• Coordinate with Investment Operations, Data Management, Risk Management, and Performance teams on reconciliations, pricing and valuation data, and instrument reference data.

• Participate in the investigation and resolution of compliance incidents and support the development and tracking of related action plans.

• Escalate significant, recurring, or unresolved issues to the appropriate senior team members.

• Build effective working relationships across the organization and contribute to a culture of collaboration and sound risk management.

Additional responsibilities

• Support the coordination of the proxy voting process with the service provider and investment management teams.

• Support the coordination of class action processes with service providers and internal stakeholders.

• Participate in other compliance, governance, and investment oversight initiatives as required.

What you bring to the table

Education

• University degree in finance, business administration, accounting, economics, or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience.

• Progress toward, or interest in pursuing, a professional designation such as CFA, CPA, CAIA, FRM, or PRM is considered an asset.

Experience

• Approximately 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in investment compliance, investment operations, risk management, audit, or investment management.

• Experience with portfolio monitoring, investment guidelines, regulatory controls, or trade review is considered an asset.

• Experience working with investment compliance systems, such as Charles River, Bloomberg, or similar platforms, is preferred.

Technical knowledge and skills

• Working knowledge of investment products, financial markets, and portfolio management processes.

• Knowledge of investment compliance principles and the regulatory framework applicable to Canadian portfolio managers is an asset.

• Familiarity with derivatives, fixed income, equities, structured products, and other investment instruments.

• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to work with large datasets and investigate discrepancies.

• Required proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly advanced proficiency for Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Query) and Teams.

• Proficiency with Artificial Intelligence tools such as Chat GPT, Copilot, Gemini or others is an asset

• Ability to learn and apply compliance systems, data tools, and reporting technologies.

Communication and judgment

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to explain compliance requirements and investment guidelines clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
