What you'll be doing

Our Competitive Search team plays an important role in advancing CIBC’s growth strategy by identifying, engaging, and attracting top mass affluent Financial Advisor talent from the competitive marketplace. As a Senior Consultant, Competitive Search Engagement, you’ll lead targeted search efforts that combine market intelligence, relationship building, and a consultative approach to connect with high-performing advisors. You’ll build and maintain strong talent pipelines, guide candidates through long-cycle recruitment journeys, and create meaningful touchpoints that move prospects from awareness to interest. With a strong understanding of advisor economics, business portability, practice composition, succession drivers, and competitive platforms, you’ll help shape how we engage experienced advisors considering a move. You’ll work closely with senior business leaders, regional partners, and cross-functional teams to deliver a thoughtful, high-quality recruitment experience.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

  • Competitive search and sourcing - Design and execute targeted search strategies to identify and engage high-performing Financial Advisors from competitor firms and the broader wealth management market through outreach, referrals, networking, industry events, and talent mapping.

  • Pipeline development - Build and maintain a continuous pipeline of qualified advisor talent by researching and prioritizing prospects based on assets under administration (AUA), portability, team structure, business fit, motivations, and timing.

  • Candidate engagement - Develop trusted relationships with passive candidates over extended recruitment cycles, deliver personalized value propositions, and guide advisors through the recruitment journey from initial outreach to offer and transition.

  • Market intelligence - Gather and synthesize competitive insights on advisor movement, competitor platforms, succession risks, dissatisfaction triggers, and emerging talent opportunities to support search decisions and business strategy.

  • Stakeholder collaboration - Partner with the Director of Competitive Search, Regional Heads, Canadian Group Managing Directors (CGMs), Human Resources Business Partners, and cross-functional teams to align search activity with hiring priorities, growth goals, and regulatory requirements.

  • Process and performance management - Manage full-cycle recruitment activity, maintain accurate records in applicant tracking system (ATS) and customer relationship management (CRM) tools, and track metrics such as pipeline volume, engagement, time-to-hire, and retention.

Who you are

  • You're passionate about people. You’ve built strong relationships within the advisor community and have a demonstrated ability to engage passive, high-performing talent. You know how to build trust, create rapport, and influence at all levels.

  • You know the industry. You bring a strong understanding of the financial advisory landscape, including advisor compensation structures, book of business dynamics, portability considerations, Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) requirements, and securities licensing.

  • You act like an owner. You bring a strong sense of urgency, accountability, and sound judgment. You can balance multiple priorities, manage several searches at once, and stay focused on results.

  • You engage with professionalism and resilience. You’re tenacious, discreet, and confident working in competitive, long-cycle search environments. You handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality.

  • You give meaning to data. You use insights to inform decisions, evaluate pipeline health, and refine sourcing and engagement strategies. You have experience using ATS platforms, CRM tools, LinkedIn Recruiter, and data-driven sourcing approaches.

  • You can demonstrate experience in talent acquisition, executive or competitive search, or financial services recruitment. It’s an asset if you have direct experience recruiting Financial Advisors or other wealth management talent.

  • You can demonstrate 7+ years of progressive experience in talent acquisition or financial services. Prior experience in competitive search is preferred.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
