What you'll be doing

The Enterprise Advanced Analytics and Artificial Intelligence team is CIBC’s center of excellence for artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing. We lead the design, build, and deployment of practical AI solutions, taking ideas from early prototypes to scalable, production-ready capabilities used across the bank. As a Senior AI Scientist, you'll apply your expertise in advanced modelling to solve complex business problems and develop innovative solutions that deliver measurable value. You'll work with structured and unstructured data to create end-to-end solutions, from experimentation through deployment and adoption. You’ll collaborate with partners across product, technology, marketing, channels, risk, and Capital Markets to bring leading AI practices into real business applications.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

  • Applied AI and Generative AI Expertise - Build AI solutions and tools using machine learning, natural language processing, Generative AI, statistics, and optimization. Take a pragmatic, outcome-focused approach that balances experimentation, research, and delivery.
  • Solution Development - Design and develop reusable tools, application programming interfaces (APIs), and accelerators that can be adopted by teams across the bank. Use AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, to improve productivity, code quality, and speed to delivery.
  • Business Partnership - Work closely with business partners to understand needs, opportunities, and pain points. Translate data into meaningful insights that support decision-making and help establish you as a trusted analytics partner.
  • Continuous Improvement - Strengthen AI and machine learning techniques and approaches by collaborating with data experts, engineering relevant features, and contributing to the development of scalable data products.
  • Technical Leadership - Partner effectively with data scientists and engineers to deliver high-quality solutions. Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance to support team growth and innovation.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in designing, building, and delivering end-to-end ML, NLP, and Generative AI solutions that move from proof of concept to production and generate measurable business value. This includes building LLM applications using prompt engineering, RAG, and agentic workflows, and working with frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or Microsoft Agent Framework. You have applied tool calling, memory, evaluation, and guardrails to support secure and reliable use in regulated environments. You also bring hands-on experience with Python, SQL, Spark, APIs, automated testing, Git-based workflows, Azure, Databricks, Azure DevOps, and GitHub Actions in production environments. It's an asset if you have experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and MLOps/LLMOps practices, particularly in financial services or other highly regulated sectors.
  • You give meaning to data. You have strong knowledge of machine learning algorithms, statistical methods, and model evaluation techniques. You use sound judgment to interpret patterns, validate results, and measure performance in a business context.
  • You're motivated by collective success. You know that teamwork can transform a good idea into a great one. You build strong relationships, value diverse perspectives, and contribute to an inclusive team environment.
  • You live your values. You bring high standards, genuine care to your relationships, and want to grow with an employer that shares your values and brings out your best.
