As members of Translation and Editorial Services in the Communications Department, Senior Editors help the Bank of Canada achieve its policy and public communication objectives by ensuring that high-profile publications are clear, coherent, accessible and effective for their intended audiences.
The work of language professionals is evolving rapidly, especially in light of new technologies. The successful candidate will need to combine language expertise with solid skills in project management, relationship management, digital literacy and artificial intelligence. The successful candidate is innovative and has a continuous-improvement mindset.
What you will do
Reporting to the Director, Translation and Editorial Services, you will:

What you need to succeed
You have a strong understanding of economics and a genuine interest in the subject, enabling you to work confidently with complex economic content and engage meaningfully with authors and subject matter experts.
You bring demonstrated expertise in substantive, structural, stylistic and copy editing, proofreading and project management. You can apply plain-language principles, edit for the web and advise on structure, narrative, tone and audience needs. You are an adaptable, collaborative language advisor who can explain editorial recommendations clearly, build consensus, identify communication risks and opportunities for improvement, and deliver high-quality advice and content within prescribed time frames.

Your education and experience
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or a related field and 7 to 10 years of experience editing complex, high-profile communications and research publications. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional). If a qualified candidate who meets the language requirement of the position is not found, a qualified candidate who does not meet the language requirement may be considered. Training may be provided to help reach the required level. Both bilingual and unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Hybrid Work Model
The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank’s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
