Specialist, Training Content - Cargo

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Cargo Learning and Development, the Specialist, Training Content - Cargo is responsible for leading the instructional design and development team as well as monitoring existing content and providing direction for content updates as part of the maintenance of the existing training catalog for Cargo employees.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of all training programs, regulatory and non-regulatory, to support corporate goals and objectives.
  • Lead the planning, analysis, design, and development, activities associated with all learning content for the Cargo branch.
  • Lead and convey training requirements for third part GHA’s to ensure compliance with Air Canada’s SOPs for cargo handling and airside activities for cargo freighters.
  • Liaise with the managers responsible for Health & Safety and Regulatory (Security, Dangerous Goods, and Customs) in order to ensure all training content is current with any regulatory changes.
  • Develop effective project workplans, monitor progress and provide regular updates to the Manager, Learning and Development Cargo with respect to milestones and deadlines.
  • Identify, document, and report on performance and learning deficiencies through leading and participating in needs assessment/analysis.
  • Responsible for making decisions on the design of instructional and support materials.
  • Ensure programs are designed according to training standards, instructional design processes and methodologies that support adult learning principles.
  • Responsible for making decisions on the application of specific performance and evaluation criteria based on training standards.
  • In collaboration with the business, determine appropriate measures for evaluating training programs and design/develop tools to assist with the data collection, as required.
  • Liaise with Air Canada Training Development department regarding course content to ensure all SOP and training material updates are communicated between the relevant branches.
  • Ensure centralized tracking system is accurate and maintained on record keeping for training completion.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Recognized university degree, preferably in Education or Adult Education, an asset.
  • Instructional Techniques certification, an asset.
  • Instructional Course Design certification, an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year in training development, required and must be recent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Cargo is preferred.
  • Familiarity with technical projects and Cargo automation tools (e.g. Weblynx, SmartLOAD, an asset).
  • Excellent comprehension and familiarity with job-related publications (e.g. Publication 178, an asset).
  • Strong PC skills i.e. MS Word, Ms PowerPoint, MS Excel, video editing, e-learning authoring tools is preferred.

  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.

Conditions of Employment:
