Network Forecasting Analyst

This is a key position within the Forecasting and Network Intelligence subgroup of the Commercial Planning team. The core responsibility of the team is to support and guide planning and scheduling activities with science-based models and decision-support systems. The responsibilities of this position include calibration and optimization of sophisticated network forecasting models and related data as well as participating in commercial studies and analyses. This position reports to the Specialist, Network Forecasting.

Responsibilities:

  • Acquire and maintain in-depth understanding of network planning and scheduling processes
  • Validate and calibrate Air Canada’s simulator of passenger demand dynamic distribution to competing airline schedules (NetLine/Plan)
  • In collaboration with Network Planners, design and run scenarios in our simulator to Support Network Planning and Scheduling activities; perform analysis on the output to assess the impact of Air Canada and / or other airlines schedule changes on Air Canada’s market share and profitability.
  • Closely participate in initiatives destined to enhance the synergies between Network Planning and Revenue Management
  • Support the multi-faceted process of launching a new route, as well as various key network design related activities by providing passenger and market share forecasts
  • Provide sound commercial recommendations based on optimization studies using available tools, such as NetLine/Plan (NLP)
  • Collaborate with the Alliances and Interline team on the evaluation of various degrees of partnerships with other airlines
  • Design new management information reports or modify existing reports to meet evolving business requirements associated with commercial decision making on the airline route network.
  • Maintain network planning tools and data integrity:
    • Generate and update input data for forecasting models, i.e., market demand, fares, schedules as well as other reference data and parameters.
    • Investigate and integrate new data sources to improve passenger and revenue forecast.
    • Set and calibrate various model parameters to ensure good quality of the forecasts as well as reliable scenario evaluations.
    • Automate and document data management processes. Maintain Linux scripts and Python programs for the automation.
  • Liaise with external vendors as required in support of ongoing projects or users’ daily work.
  • Stay current and serve as internal expert in network planning methodologies and technologies. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering or equivalent. Master’s degree an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  
  • Ability to work under pressure and to multi-task with a strong sense of priorities, always with a high interest on precision and detail.  
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Access knowledge desired.
  • Understanding Python programming language and SQL and/or other advanced analytic methods, a definite asset.  
  • Experience in handling and analyzing large volumes of complex data, a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of NetLine/Plan, Sabre Fleet Manager and/or Schedule Manager, an asset.
  • Experience in network planning and scheduling, an asset
  • Good communication skills particularly the ability to interface with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Knowledge of airline industry, preferred.
  • Strong customer service orientation essential.  
  • Solid time management and organizational skills.  
  • Must be a good team player.
