The Canadian Depository for Securities (CDS) serves as Canada’s national securities depository, clearing, and settlement hub, providing the vital infrastructure required to support the integrity and efficiency of the Canadian capital markets. Within this ecosystem, the Asset Services Information Unit manages the entire lifecycle of Corporate Actions data for securities held by CDS.

The Processing analyst is a pivotal and high impact role, which centers on managing the operational lifecycle of all mandatory corporate action processing (such as Distributions, Name Changes, Mergers, Stock Splits, etc). This role functions as a reliable and essential informational connector, contributing significantly to the wider Canadian Capital Markets Infrastructure. This role requires technical and strategic expertise in prioritizing the timely processing of all Corporate Action payments to CDS Participants.  A vital aspect of this position is the unwavering commitment to cultivating and sustaining professional, courteous, and effective relationships with both external business contacts and diverse internal stakeholders. 


Reports to: Manager, Corporate Actions Processing

Job Location: This role is hybrid (2-3 days/week in the office) - based in Montreal, QC


Key Accountabilities:


  • Event Analysis & Deadline Management:  Analyze Terms by reviewing corporate action event information,options, tax implications and legal requirements to fully understand the event. Identify, diarize and monitor critical dates (expiries, payment dates) to ensure no deadlines are missed.  
  • Processing & Payouts: Manage the end-to-end execution of corporate actions ensuring seamless processing of events while maintaining system integrity, balancing payments against proceeds and authorizing final participant payouts.
  • Optimize Operations: Oversee the rigorous and timely processing of mandatory corporate action events across all requisite internal systems and external platforms.  Proactively identify workflow optimization opportunities, implementing best practices and leveraging technology to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
  • Navigate Standard to Intermediate Transactions: Determine and log applicable fees for exceptional corporate action requests following a thorough evaluation. 
  • Strategic Partnership: Liaise withTransfer Agents/Paying Agents, DTC, Legal Counsel, as required, to validate payment details and resolve discrepancies.
  • Proactive Risk Mitigation & Escalation: Ensure strict adherence to established protocols for the timely and appropriate escalation of issues to management, alongside the proactive identification and documentation of risk mitigation strategies. Analyze existing procedural frameworks and internal controls, suggesting targeted improvements that guarantee best-in-class operational standards, bolster risk mitigation efforts, and uphold a commitment to customer consideration.



Must Have(s):


  • Industry Expertise: 2 to 3 years + of relevant experience in financial services, capital markets or post-trade operations.
  • Educational Background: Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance or a related field.
  • Market Knowledge: Sound understanding of the Canadian Securities Industry (Equities/Fixed Income).
  • Technical Mastery: Intermediate to expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace. 
  • High-Performance Execution:Proven ability to manage multiple high-priority transactions and other deadlines in a fast-paced environment.  Great analytical/accounting skills to accurately determine standard to intermediate entitlement payments and finalize corporate action processes.
  • Strategic Advisory: Ability to guide legal counsel and external stakeholders through financial concepts and operational requirements.


Nice to Have(s):


  • Domain Expertise: Good understanding of Corporate Action processing 
  • Bilingualism: Fluency in both French and English (written and spoken) is a significant asset due to regular interaction with national partners and stakeholders.
  • Certification: Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC).
