Purpose:
The Senior Trust Officer, Specialized Projects is an execution-focused role responsible for supporting Scotiatrust’s strategic priorities through the delivery of targeted initiatives that enhance profitability, operational efficiency, and overall client experience.

As part of a centralized team of experienced professionals, the incumbent leads structured reviews, develops and implements practical solutions, and drives end-to-end execution in partnership with regional teams, while maintaining a client-centric and risk-controlled approach.

Contract Term:
This position is expected to support a strategic project with an anticipated duration of approximately 18 months. The preferred commitment is for the full project term. Depending on employment eligibility and hiring requirements, the role may be offered as a 12-month contract with the potential for extension.

Accountabilities: 

•    Lead structured reviews of accounts, portfolios, or processes to assess opportunities and determine appropriate actions. 
•    Develop and execute tailored strategies aligned to business objectives, client needs, and operational considerations. 
•    Manage end-to-end execution of project deliverables, ensuring timely completion through effective coordination of approvals, documentation, and logistics. 
•    Ensure all activities adhere to governing documents, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. 
•    Identify and escalate legal, operational, and reputational risks, partnering with internal teams and external advisors as required. 
•    Collaborate with Scotiatrust’s regional client facing teams and internal partners to support implementation of identified strategies. 
•    Maintain disciplined workflow management to deliver against defined targets, timelines, and project outcomes.
•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
•    Consistently ‘does the right thing’ to keep the Bank safe and foster an environment where they, employees, customers, and stakeholders can speak up / raise concerns.
•    Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience:

Required:
•    Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) Designation or equivalent 
•    Significant experience (5-7 years) in estates and trusts administration, with demonstrated technical expertise in fiduciary structures.
•    Proven experience managing complex trust files, including interpretation of legal documentation and governance requirements.
•    Strong understanding of estates, trust law, taxation, and fiduciary risk management.


Experience in any of the following is desirable:
•    Legal, accounting, finance or business 
•    Specific regulatory or compliance knowledge


Working Conditions:
Hybrid work arrangement with some in office presence is required. No travel is required. 

Work Location:

  • Candidates may be based anywhere in Canada.
  • Experience administering trusts and estates within specific provincial jurisdictions, particularly Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia, is considered a strong asset

For Quebec-based candidates: In addition to French, the successful candidate must also have sufficient knowledge of English, as the work involves interacting and collaborating regularly with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with other people, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
