Bring your leadership skills, occupational health and safety expertise and demonstrated training development and delivery skills to the Prevention Division of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and be part of a dynamic team that improves occupational health and safety culture through the delivery of programs focused on quality training and recognition of employers with accredited safety systems.

Note: This position can be located in Toronto or Ottawa, depending on the selected candidate's preference. Also note that travel may be required, at times to remote locations where public transportation is not available.

About the job

In this role you will:
• Support the Prevention Office strategic priorities, core business, legislative and regulatory obligations through the development of health and safety prevention frameworks and audit standards and methods, to determine and maintain compliance within the overall OHS strategy.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of health and safety prevention learning/training and audit programs.
• Conduct research and independent analysis in support of curriculum development and offerings in the province.
• Provide assistance in the development of learning frameworks, audit standards and methods, and related initiatives.
• Review training providers and training programs including traveling inside Ontario for field assessments to support recommendations for Chief Prevention Officer approval or rejection.
• Attend various locations across the province to perform assessments of training providers and to meet with stakeholders.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• You have the ability to travel extensively, respond to after-hour calls, and work evenings and weekends as part of regular scheduled work.
• You possess oral and written French language skills at the advanced level. Your proficiency level will be confirmed before hire.

Program Development Skills

• You have knowledge of program development, design and evaluation methodologies and processes.
• You have knowledge of performance analysis, quality assurance, audit theory, principles, standards of practices, methods and instruments, and risk-based assessment, to develop audit criteria, standards, performance indicators and metrics.
• You can identify and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of programs and processes.

Occupational Health and Safety Expertise

• You have knowledge of health and safety issues within the context of health and safety prevention learning and training.
• You can interpret and understand related legislative and regulatory obligations (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act).
• You understand occupational health and safety service delivery, system trends, models of delivery, funding and governance, and understanding of critical issues and concerns faced by stakeholders.

Leadership Skills and Specialized Knowledge

• You have demonstrated leadership skills to provide coaching and technical leadership and lead learning/training programs.
• You have knowledge of and experience in adult education principles and practices.
• You can conduct independent needs analysis and provide advice on the development and delivery of prevention learning and training programs.

Analytical, Strategic Thinking and Research Skills

• You have analytical and strategic thinking skills to review programs, provide advice and make recommendations.
• You can conduct research, analysis, and technical examination for the evaluation and assessment of quality program delivery and for the preparation and presentation of recommendations on findings.
• You know how to apply research methodologies, techniques, principles and practices.

Communication, Consultation, Relationship Management and Negotiation Skills

• You have effective oral and written communications, consultation and relationship management skills to manage and maintain effective relationships through consultation and consensus building, prepare and present advice to senior managers and develop reports, briefings, letters, etc.
• You have negotiation, conflict resolution techniques/processes, and issues management skills to identify issues and make recommendations for resolution.
