  • Research, gather, review, vet and select reports and news items for newscasts. Look for national news items aired on the network that may have regional impact. Identify sources and check facts.

During the live broadcast, decide whether the lineup should be changed to reflect breaking news.
  • Inform the newsroom or website supervisor of any event that deserves special coverage on air or online.
  • After a broadcast, provide feedback to reporters and management.
  • Help assess the work of reporters and critique newscasts when required.
  • File and archive aired news items and reports.
  • Determine digital needs for editorial content, infographics, tables and maps, and oversee their production. Collaborate on special coverage plans and digital layouts based on news prominence. Ensure that all image galleries, stories and hyperlinks remain relevant and accurate. Help organize, moderate and participate in interactive digital events (live panels, chats and discussion forums).
