Canada Life currently has an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Consultant. The successful candidate must be a licensed pharmacist and legally eligible to work in Canada. This is a hybrid role requiring 1 or more days per week in the Winnipeg, MB office.

Prescription drug benefits are a critical component of employee benefit programs. The Pharmacy Consultant will provide specialized expertise to assess drug coverage requests, applying evidence-based criteria to support consistent and timely reviews. By applying rigorous clinical oversight, it will allow Canada Life to continue to offer industry leading products and support to our plan members and customers.

Under the guidance of the Manager, Pharmacy Support Services, the successful candidate will join a team dedicated to prescription drug management, disability claim optimization and client support.

What you will do: 

  • As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, assist in balancing the health needs of plan members with the cost management needs of plan sponsors, while contributing to the long-term sustainability of drug plans
  • Conduct timely and comprehensive clinical assessments of complex prior authorization requests
  • Provide consultative support for management of drug claims
  • Develop and maintain Prior Authorization criteria and protocols in collaboration with the Drug Strategy and Drug Claims Management teams
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and medical consultants to provide clinical opinions
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders such as Policy and Operations, Product Development and Pharmaceutical manufacturers
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of reference material related to drug policy
  • Maintain professional competence and expertise in the pharmacy profession through the on-going review of current pharmacy and medical literature, professional continuing education as well as through contact with professional peers

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and licensed to practice in a province of Canada
  • Minimum 2 years directly related experience
  • Bilingualism in French and English is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated clinical judgment
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective decision-making and documentation skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a variety of roles to build collaborative partnerships across function and the business

  • Ability to travel
  • Reliability Status Security Clearance – this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. This is a personal security status that is required as a condition of employment before an employee can gain access to Protected B information, assets or work sites as outlined by the Government of Canada  website.  The cost of submitting these checks will be covered by Canada Life.

The base salary for this position is between $90,400 - $140,400 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
