Mergers and Acquisitions Tax, Manager (Bilingual FR/EN)

Locations: Ottawa - 99 Bank Street, Toronto - 18 York Street, Québec City, Montreal 

A career in our growing Merger and Acquisition Tax practice, within Tax services, will provide you with the opportunity to help our clients in various industries to meet and manage their tax obligations across unique but ever changing tax specialties. You’ll advise clients on their local and cross-border tax affairs, while acting as a strategic consultant related to business analysis and M&A tax solutions. 

Our team helps our clients with various aspects of merger and acquisition transactions such as transaction structuring, tax due diligence, internal reorganizations, and post acquisition integration. As part of our team, you’ll have opportunities to assist with assessing historical tax risks of potential targets, analyzing proposed transactions for unusual tax risks or undetermined tax benefits, advising clients on tax-efficient restructurings, and performing financial analysis / modeling to assess the tax consequences of specific transactions.

Meaningful work you’ll be part of

As a Mergers and Acquisitions Manager, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve business issues, deliver high quality client service and operational efficiency. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to transactions from the proposal stage through to closing, working closely with a large team including PwC professionals, other advisors such as lawyers and investment bankers, and our clients’ senior management team.

  • Experience the reward of adding real value to transactions – whether by raising material tax issues during the tax due diligence stage, or by proposing efficient tax structures to help secure financing during the closing stage.

  • Contribute technical knowledge in the area of specialism, including assistance with research, design and implementation of a wide variety of tax planning solutions.

  • Anticipate stakeholder needs, and develop and discuss potential solutions, even before the stakeholder realizes they are required.

  • Deal effectively with ambiguous and unstructured problems and situations.

  • Move easily between big picture thinking and managing relevant detail.

  • Encourage everyone to have a voice and invite opinions from all, including quieter members of the team.

  • Initiate open and candid coaching conversations at all levels.

  • Navigate the complexities of cross-border and/or diverse teams and engagements.

  • Initiate and lead open conversations with teams, clients and stakeholders to build trust, act to resolve issues which prevent the team working effectively and uhold the firm's code of ethics and business conduct; coach others, recognise their strengths, and encourage them to take ownership of their personal development; simplify complex messages, highlighting and summarizing key points.

Experience and skills you’ll use to solve

  • Experience in corporate and/or international tax research, consulting and compliance in a professional services firm, industry, government agency or law firm is an asset.

  • Qualified Canadian CPA or equivalent reciprocal/recognized designation.

  • Superior communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills that allow you to thrive in a team environment.

  • Ability to think creatively, solve complex problems, determine innovative solutions and communicate with impact.

  • A commitment to providing excellent client service and pride in delivering top quality work.

  • A demonstrated commitment to valuing differences, developing and coaching diverse teams, and ensuring diverse perspectives are heard.

  • Ability to work in a multitasked, fast-paced and changing environment. 

  • When applying to a Quebec based opportunity, fluency in French is required. Outside of Quebec, fluency in French is an asset.
